A broadband, individually addressing two- and three-dimensional photonic integrated circuit for trapped-ion qubit control

Authors: Daniel Klawson, Yiyang Zhi, Bingran You, Michael Bareian, Elijah Mossman, Chun-Yuan Fan, Arkadev Roy, Ke Sun, Jason Lee, Sung Cheol Yoon, Qiming Wu, Lai Jiang, Wenjun Ke, Weiwei Wu, Sirui Tang, Zachary Wall, Jiaxiang Wang, Louis Paul Romero, Sam Vizvary, Steven Diaz, Eric R. Hudson, Wesley C. Campbell, Hartmut Haeffner, Ming C. Wu

Abstract: Trapped ions provide a high-fidelity platform for quantum information processing, yet delivery of multiple, distinct wavelengths across large networks of interaction zones remains a bottleneck. Conventional free-space light delivery lacks scalability, while on-chip grating couplers suffer from narrow operational bandwidth that increases circuit footprint and optical interfacing complexity. Here we… ▽ More

Variational Quantum Algorithm for Unitary Dilation

    Authors: S. X. Li, Keren Li, J. B. You, Y. -H. Chen, Clemens Gneiting, Franco Nori, X. Q. Shao

Abstract: We introduce a hybrid quantum-classical framework for efficiently implementing approximate unitary dilations of non-unitary operators with enhanced noise resilience. The method embeds a target non-unitary operator into a subblock of a unitary matrix generated by a parameterized quantum circuit with universal expressivity, while a classical optimizer adjusts circuit parameters under the global unit… ▽ More

Authors: Melika Momenzadeh, Ke Sun, Qiming Wu, Bingran You, Yu-Lung Tang, Hartmut Häffner, Maxim Radikovich Shcherbakov

Abstract: Trapped-ion quantum computing requires precise optical control for individual qubit manipulation. However, conventional free-space optics face challenges in alignment stability and scalability as the number of qubits increases. Integrated photonics offers a promising alternative, providing miniaturized optical systems on a chip. Here, we propose a design for a multimode photonic circuit integrated… ▽ More

Temporally multiplexed ion-photon quantum interface via fast ion-chain transport

Authors: Bingran You, Qiming Wu, David Miron, Wenjun Ke, Inder Monga, Erhan Saglamyurek, Hartmut Haeffner

Abstract: High-rate remote entanglement between photon and matter-based qubits is essential for distributed quantum information processing. A key technique to increase the modest entangling rates of existing long-distance quantum networking approaches is multiplexing. Here, we demonstrate a temporally multiplexed ion-photon interface via rapid transport of a chain of nine calcium ions across 74… ▽ More

  6. Holonomic swap and controlled-swap gates of neutral atoms via selective Rydberg pumping

    Authors: C. F. Sun, X. Y. Chen, W. L. Mu, G. C. Wang, J. B. You, X. Q. Shao

Abstract: Holonomic quantum computing offers a promising paradigm for quantum computation due to its error resistance and the ability to perform universal quantum computations. Here, we propose a scheme for the rapid implementation of a holonomic swap gate in neutral atomic systems, based on the selective Rydberg pumping mechanism. By employing time-dependent soft control, we effectively mitigate the impact… ▽ More

Confining charged particles with time-varying magnetic fields: toward non-torus configuration of fusion plasmas

Authors: Shao-Wu Yao, Bo You, Yue-Hao Yin, Zhi-Yong Wu, Li-Xiang Cen

Abstract: We develop protocols to confine charged particles using time-varying magnetic fields and demonstrate the possible non-torus configuration resulting from the distribution of single-particle motion orbits. A two-step strategy is proposed to achieve this goal: preliminary protocols are contrived by solely considering the magnetic force; afterwards they are evaluated and selected through numerical sol… ▽ More

3D-Printed Micro Ion Trap Technology for Scalable Quantum Information Processing

Authors: Shuqi Xu, Xiaoxing Xia, Qian Yu, Sumanta Khan, Eli Megidish, Bingran You, Boerge Hemmerling, Andrew Jayich, Juergen Biener, Hartmut Häffner

Abstract: Trapped-ion applications, such as in quantum information, precision measurements, optical clocks, and mass spectrometry, rely on specialized high-performance ion traps. The latter applications typically employ traditional machining to customize macroscopic 3D Paul traps, while quantum information processing experiments usually rely on photo-lithographic techniques to miniaturize the traps and meet… ▽ More

  9. Test of Causal Non-Linear Quantum Mechanics by Ramsey Interferometry on the Vibrational Mode of a Trapped Ion

Authors: Joseph Broz, Bingran You, Sumanta Khan, Hartmut Haeffner, David E. Kaplan, Surjeet Rajendran

Abstract: Kaplan and Rajendran have recently demonstrated that non-linear and state-dependent terms can be consistently added to quantum field theory to yield causal non-linear time evolution in quantum mechanics. Causal non-linear theories have the unavoidable feature that their quantum effects are dramatically sensitive to the full physical spread of the quantum state of the system. As a result, such theo… ▽ More

  10. Coherent ground-state transport of neutral atoms

    Authors: X. X. Li, J. B. You, X. Q. Shao, Weibin Li

Abstract: Quantum state transport is an important way to study the energy or information flow. By combining the unconventional Rydberg pumping mechanism and the diagonal form of van der Waals interactions, we construct a theoretical model via second-order perturbation theory to realize a long-range coherent transport inside the ground-state manifold of neutral atoms system. With the adjustment of the Rabi f… ▽ More

  11. Averaged fidelity-based steering criteria

Authors: Xiaohua Wu, Bo You, Tao Zhou

Abstract: In the present work, the averaged fidelity is introduced as the steering parameter. According to the definitions of steering from Alice to Bob, a general scheme for designing linear steering criteria is developed for a high-dimensional system. For a given set of measurements on Bob's side, two quantities, the so-called nonsteering thresholds, can be defined. If the measured averaged fidelity excee… ▽ More

  12. Generality of the concatenated five-qubit code

Authors: Long Huang, Bo You, Xiaohua Wu, Tao Zhou

Abstract: In this work, a quantum error correction (QEC) procedure with the concatenated five-qubit code is used to construct a near-perfect effective qubit channel (with a error below $10^{-5}$) from arbitrary noise channels. The exact performance of the QEC is characterized by a Choi matrix, which can be obtained via a simple and explicit protocol. In a noise model with five free parameters, our numerical… ▽ More

  13. Long-lived quantum coherence of two-level spontaneous emission models within structured environments

Authors: Ping Zhang, Bo You, Li-Xiang Cen

Abstract: We investigate the long-lived quantum coherence of two-level spontaneous emission models within structured environments. The population of the system under the asymptotic non-Markovian dynamics is linked to the spectral density of the reservoir through a general functional relation between them. We figure out explicitly the preservation of quantum coherence, via notions of entanglement and quantum… ▽ More

  14. Necessary and sufficient conditions of freezing phenomena of quantum discord under phase damping

    Authors: Bo You, Li-Xiang Cen

Abstract: We investigate the freezing phenomenon of quantum discord occurring in phase damping noise processes. By relating the expression of the time variation of the discord to the convex function of relative entropy, we obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions of the phenomenon for standard Bell-diagonal states. These conditions are applicable also to the phenomenon occurring in a non-Markovian dep… ▽ More

Unitary application of the quantum error correction codes

    Authors: Xoaohua Wu, Bo You

Abstract: From the set of operators for errors and its correction code, we introduce the so-called complete unitary transformation. It can be used for encoding while the inverse of it can be applied for correcting the errors of the encoded qubit. We show that this unitary protocol can be applied for any code which satisfies the quantum error correction condition.
