XRISM reveals sloshing-driven gas motions in the core of Abell 2029

Authors: Yuusuke Uchida, Yuna Saito, Naomi Ota, Erwin T. Lau, Ming Sun, Eric D. Miller, Tommaso Bartalesi, Stefano Ettori, Kotaro Fukushima, Caroline Kilbourne, Lorenzo Lovisari, Kyoko Matsushita, Brian R. McNamara, Arnab Sarkar, Kazunori Suda, Irina Zhuravleva

Abstract: We investigate the velocity structure of the intracluster medium (ICM) in the core of the relaxed cool-core cluster Abell 2029 using XRISM Resolve spectroscopy. We analyze combined XRISM Resolve observations and divide the central region into several subregions. To account for photon mixing caused by the XRISM point spread function, we perform a spatial-spectral mixing analysis. We detect an order… ▽ More

Non-Thermal Pressure due to Gas Motions in the Intracluster Medium: Confronting XRISM/Resolve with TNG-Cluster Simulations

Authors: Erwin T. Lau, Naomi Ota, Daisuke Nagai

Abstract: Intracluster medium (ICM) gas motions probe cluster assembly, feedback, and non-thermal pressure support, but recent XRISM observations reveal velocity dispersions and non-thermal pressure fractions systematically lower than simulations predict, with extreme systems such as Abell 2029 falling below nearly all simulated clusters. Using the TNG-Cluster simulations, we show that the non-thermal press… ▽ More

An exact time-dependent generator coordinate method with projection for spontaneous fission reactions

    Authors: N. -W. T. Lau, G. Scamps, P. Tan, R. N. Bernard

Abstract: Microscopic descriptions of fission dynamics through the barrier rely on different theoretical frameworks depending on the fission regime, with the time-dependent generator coordinate method (TDGCM) commonly used for induced fission and semiclassical approaches such as the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) method widely employed for spontaneous fission. Abstract: We present the first search for $B^0 \to K^0_{\rm S} τ^+τ^-$ decays. We look for signal decays in $B^0\bar B^0$ events produced in asymmetric-energy electron-positron collisions. This work uses samples from the Belle and Belle~II detectors, comprising 1.16 billion $Υ(4S)$ events. In $Υ(4S)\to B^0\bar{B}^0$ decays, the non-signal $\bar{B}^0$ meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic channel. For t… ▽ More

Late-infall-induced formation of giant planets, multi-generational planetesimals, and disk substructures

Abstract: Late infall can replenish the building materials of planets in protoplanetary disks and dramatically alter their structural evolution. The resulting pressure bumps effectively accumulate dust, facilitate grain coagulation, and trigger planetesimal formation via the streaming instability. Additionally, combining it with the EEPN-free carrier phase recovery shows additional gain due to a fully symmetrical propagation-backpropagation structure.

Abstract: Galaxy clusters form through hierarchical assembly, where smaller substructures merge to build the largest gravitationally bound objects in the universe. These mergers, combined with feedback from AGN, filamentary accretion, and other energy injection processes, generate turbulence and perturbations within the intra-cluster medium (ICM). Abstract: The bottomonium spectrum, consisting of bound states of a $b$ quark and an anti-$b$ quark, provides an excellent laboratory for probing quantum chromodynamics in the non-perturbative regime. While $S$ and $P$-wave bottomonium states are well studied experimentally, information on $D$-wave states remains scarce. Abstract: Protoplanetary disk substructures are thought to play a crucial role in disk evolution and planet formation. Population studies of disks large-sample size surveys show that substructures, and their rapid formation, are needed to reproduce the observed spectral indices. Abstract: We present the result of a search for the charged-lepton-flavor violating decays $τ^- \rightarrow e^\mp \ell^\pm \ell^-$, where $\ell$ is a muon or an electron, using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 428 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The selection of $e^+e^- \toτ^+τ^-$ events containing a signal candidate is based on an inclusive-ta… ▽ More

Abstract: We recently measured the branching fraction of the $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ decay using 362fb$^{-1}$ of on-resonance $e^+e^-$ collision data under the assumption of Standard Model kinematics, providing the first evidence for this decay. To facilitate future reinterpretations and maximize the scientific impact of this measurement, we publicly release the full analysis likelihood along with al… ▽ More
