Are you using an AI PC yet?

If not, 2026 might be the year to upgrade! These smart machines (maybe for real this time?) are gaining in popularity, with Gartner forecasting they'll snag 31% of the global PC market by year's end, driven by on-device AI that boosts efficiency without needed the cloud.

For non-tech folks, think of an AI PC as your laptop with a built-in brain (Neural Processing Unit or NPU) that handles tasks locally, so everything is faster, more private, and lag-free. Here's a rundown of top models currently (as you can see, it's mostly the usual suspects, but with updated AI operating systems from Windows and Apple and the new NPUs):

  • Asus Zenbook S 14 (UX5406): Intel Core Ultra processor with 48 TOPS NPU, sweet OLED display, and 20+ hour battery. Features like AI noise cancellation in calls and real-time translation make remote work a little less boring.
  • Microsoft Surface Laptop 7: Snapdragon X Elite chip (45 TOPS NPU), all-day battery, and haptic touchpad. Productivity perks include auto-summarizing notes in OneNote or enhancing photos in Paint.
  • Dell XPS 13: Options with Intel Lunar Lake (up to 48 TOPS) or Snapdragon X; premium build with high battery claims. AI tools like Windows Studio Effects auto-frame you in video calls, while local Copilot assists coding or data analysis on the fly.
  • HP EliteBook Ultra 14: Intel Core Ultra 7, OLED screen, and enterprise security. Features AI-enhanced webcam for better presence detection and noise reduction, perfect for folks who take calls at airports and coffee shops!
  • Apple MacBook Air M4: 38 TOPS Neural Engine for Apple Intelligence; edits videos or summarizes recordings effortlessly, extending battery to 15+ hours for uninterrupted workflows.

With the latest AI updates, these PCs finally feel like they can make you more productive by automating some of the grunt work. What's your take? Going all in on AI or holding back and happy with your current setup?
