One small change on a website can dramatically increase signups. I was recently looking at the Boise Art Museum website and noticed something interesting. Like many sites, it had a simple email signup that essentially said: “Stay informed.” The challenge with messaging like this is that it requires the visitor to already care about the museum. Many people might not yet see the value in signing up. But imagine if the signup instead offered something like this: “Learn the top 5 most famous artists who have ever lived in Idaho.” Now that is compelling. Even someone who is only casually interested in art might think: “Wait, who are the most famous artists from Idaho?” That curiosity becomes the motivation to sign up. This is a powerful concept for any website. Instead of asking people to subscribe for updates, offer something adjacent that sparks curiosity or provides value. What a dizzying time.
