Freedom is not a given. It must be defended, rebuilt and nurtured. On 23 August, we remember the victims of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes across Europe. We honour those whose courage gave us the freedom and democracy we live in today. Their suffering is still felt, even generations later. Their sacrifice calls on us to protect that freedom, and to carry its legacy forward. 🕯️Let our common history remind us where hatred and intolerance can lead, and let it strengthen the values that unite us: human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and fundamental rights. Democracy must be defended - every day, by all of us.

Clearer information. Stronger consumer rights. Better and more sustainable choices. From 27 September 2026, consumers across the EU will start seeing two new tools in shops and online: 🔹 A notice explaining their legal guarantee rights 🔹 The new EU GARAN label, highlighting products covered by durability guarantees of more than two years These measures will help consumers identify longer-lasting products and shop with greater confidence. We encourage producers to build longer-lasting products and make use of the new EU label. Long live GARAN! 🔗Read more: https://lnkd.in/eQqJe4sM

Keeping our eyes open is only the beginning 👁️ Recognising victims, knowing their rights and helping them find support can make a real difference. Today, the #EyesOpen campaign continues its journey across Europe in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, raising awareness of victims’ rights and the support available. But raising awareness is only part of the work. As we prepare the next EU Strategy on Victims’ Rights, we also want to hear your views on how we can better support victims and ensure their rights work in practice. Know your rights. Have your say. Help shape what comes next.

⚖️ Someone wanted by justice is found in another EU country. What happens next? For over 20 years, the European Arrest Warrant has helped judicial authorities across the EU work together to arrest and surrender people wanted for prosecution or to serve a sentence imposed in another Member State. While reporting varies from year to year, the 2024 data provided by Member States show broadly stable activity, with some signs of more effective cooperation: 📈 66.27% of arrests led to a surrender, up from 57.80% in 2023. 🤝 Of the surrender procedures started in 2024, 71.12% were successfully completed, compared with 59.57% in 2023. The figures also show that meeting deadlines remains a challenge in some Member States. The European Commission will keep working with them to address this. ⏱️

You have a minimum 2-year legal guarantee. The seller must repair or replace faulty goods free of charge. If this isn't possible, you may be entitled to a full or partial refund. 🔗 Find out more → https://europa.eu/!j3B36H

In case of emergency, remember: 1 Union, 1 number – 1️⃣1️⃣2️⃣. It is toll-free and can be dialed from any landline or mobile phone. The calls are handled by trained operators who can assist in multiple languages. The operator will either assist you directly or transfer your call to the most appropriate emergency service. This emergency helpline is also available in countries outside our Union, such as Switzerland and worldwide on GSM mobile networks. When every second counts, 112 is your first defence line.
