What’s stopping European tech start-ups from becoming major household names? 😱 Is it because Europeans are just less entrepreneurial? Partly, yes. But there is a lot more to it than that. As we explain in a new episode of Espresso Economics, Europe lacks the necessary capital to scale start-ups into big global companies. Fragmentation is a strategic vulnerability for Europe, says Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis in an interview for our latest Supervision Newsletter. Banks are the backbone of the European economy. To drive competitiveness and long-term growth, Europe must complete the banking union, unlock cross-border banking and mobilise savings for investment. Watch the video preview 👉 https://lnkd.in/eqpF4jAF Also under the microscope in this edition: We’re having a clean-up of open supervisory measures – the actions we ask banks to take to address our findings. From October, we’ll simplify or discontinue the follow-up of less relevant findings. This more targeted approach will reduce backlogs and ensure everyone’s attention is directed where it’s needed most. On-site inspections are a core tool for European banking supervision. Our reforms are already making these interactions faster and more focused on the most important risks, helping banks address urgent findings in a timely manner. Investment banking connects banks, markets and the economy, supporting innovation and growth. But it also comes with risks. Learn how we assist banks in managing those risks without getting in the way of healthy market activity. Read the Supervision Newsletter for the full picture 👉 https://lnkd.in/gdMmjEb
