This paper aims to recover the notion of the death in Aristotle’s vision. It is not a simple task to discuss about this theme, due to the absence of a more detained investigation by the Philosopher. For this reason, we propose a reflection in order to undertand the death from its possible relation with the concept of virtue.

The presente paper aims discusses the concept of “beauty”/kalón in the virtue of integrity. It is known that this adjetive applies to the arts relative to the estate of its final products, however Aristotle presents two arguments to show that the virtues/dispositions differ from the arts/competencies. Thus, it is necessary to examinate by what criteria we can attribute “beauty” to the actions performed. Moreover, there are authors who supports that the integrity is a rational virtue, an “episteme”. Thus when investigating (...) the attibuition of “beauty” to the actions, we defend the integrity as a moral virtue answering to moral intellectualism. (shrink)

The present thesis is the result of research on critical dialogue between Aristotle's virtue ethics and Socratic ethics, under the title of “moral intellectualism”, our object. We deal with the following subjects in our text: (i) we carry out a descriptive analysis of this philosophical aspect with which Aristotle confronts, in order to understand the most relevant issues involved. (ii) We explain how the image of Socrates in Aristotle contributed to the construction of Socratic rationalism. (iii) We show how the (...) intellectualist aspect is received in the development of his moral philosophy and how it is refuted. Aristotle, as we will see, rejects the Socratic moral postulate of the sufficiency of reason, because of his reductionist view, which could compromise the correct process of acquisition of virtues and, by extension, a more plausible view of human flourishing. We seek to indicate how Aristotle's proposition when contrasted with Socrates' would also be incongruous with those that are based on an similar ethical principle. (shrink)
