The global cultivation of grapes reaches approximately 77.8 million tons annually, according to the International Organization of Vine and Wine. While grapes remain a vital agricultural commodity and dietary staple worldwide, their production faces serious threats from common diseases like black rot, Esca, and leaf blight. Current disease detection methods in modern vineyards primarily depend on manual visual inspection, a practice that often delays diagnosis and leads to reduced yields and compromised fruit quality. The integration of automated detection methods, particularly (...) those based on machine learning, is crucial for promoting sustainable viticulture. This study leverages the power of deep learning, a subfield of machine learning particularly adept at interpreting image data. Specifically, we implemented Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to classify images of grapevine leaves as either healthy or diseased. The models employed included a custom-built baseline CNN and a range of advanced transfer learning models: DenseNet121, EfficientNetB7, MobileNetV2, ResNet50, and VGG16. While we initially hypothesized that ResNet50 would yield the highest accuracy due to its deep architecture, experimental results revealed that EfficientNetB7 outperformed all other models. To further enhance classification performance, we constructed a max-voting ensemble using the top three performing models. This ensemble approach outmatched the performance of individual models. The final model was deployed via a web-based interface, enabling vineyard professionals and growers to detect black rot, Esca, leaf blight, or confirm leaf health by uploading images captured in real-world vineyard environments. In this research, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model was developed and tested to predict Birth Weight. A number of factors were identified that may affect birth weight. Factors such as smoke, race, age, weight (lbs) at last menstrual period, hypertension, uterine irritability, number of physician visits in 1st trimester, among others, as input variables for the ANN model. A model based on multi-layer concept topology was developed and trained using the data from some birth cases in hospitals. The question of whether artificially generated music can be considered aesthetically “alive” has been framed almost universally as a question about the machine. This paper argues that such framing is the central error. Examined through perceptual cognition, structural aesthetics, and systems theory, musical vitality has never resided in the generative source—it has always resided in the interpretive encounter between structured sound and a perceiving mind. Artificial intelligence, understood not as a creative agent but as a high-dimensional structural instrument situated between (...) human intent and sonic output, does not challenge this relationship; it clarifies it. The paper introduces the Delegated Vitality Framework (DVF), a three-axis model describing the conditions under which perceived aliveness in sound emerges independently of the originating system’s phenomenological status. The paper repositions the philosophical debate around AI music from questions of authorship and consciousness toward questions of structure, constraint design, and interpretive activation. تحمل قصة وفاة آينشتين، والصور الملتقة له قبل وبعد وفاته مباشرةً، عدة رسائل: الأولى هي صدمة المجتمع العلمي والدولي إزاء فقدان كلماته الأخيرة، فلربما كانت أهم كلماته على الإطلاق؛ والثانية مسحة الحُزن التي كست وجهه، والتي اجتهد كثير من الباحثين في تفسيرها؛ والثالثة هي صورة مجلة الفلسفة على مكتبه، وأراها مُوجهة بصفة خاصة إلى كثرة من العلماء الذين استغرقتهم بحوثهم النظرية والعملية ونتائجها دون فهم أو تأمل لأبعادها الفلسفية.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that mainly affects the motor system. The symptoms generally come on slowly over time. Early in the disease, the most obvious are shaking, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulty with walking. Doctors do not know what causes it and finds difficulty in early diagnosing the presence of Parkinson’s disease. An artificial neural network system with back propagation algorithm is presented in this paper for helping doctors in identifying (...) PD. Previous research with regards to predict the presence of the PD has shown accuracy rates up to 93% [1]; however, accuracy of prediction for small classes is reduced. The proposed design of the neural network system causes a significant increase of robustness. It is also has shown that networks recognition rates reached 100%. (shrink)

The idea of uploading our minds to a computer or an Android device remains science fiction, and we are still far from mapping the human brain. Furthermore, we don't understand what makes us conscious, and we have no evidence that simply uploading information from the brain to a computer would generate subjective experiences. In this essay, I want to defend three points. First, uploading the mind to (...) a computer is practically impossible. Second, even if we could upload something resembling a mind to a computer, it's highly unlikely that the uploaded "mind" would be conscious. تُعلمنا الفلسفة كيف نُفكر»، عبارةٌ تتردد كثيرًا على ألسنة أساتذة الفلسفة أمام طلابهم الجُدد، وربما في حواراتهم وحلقاتهم البحثية التي لا تعكس قطعًا نمط حياتهم اليومية. قد تصيبك العبارة بالدهشة، ليس فقط لأن مجرد حضورك لدرسٍ فلسفي يُعد دليلاً كافيًا على أنك تعرف كيف تفكر! بل ولأنك قد تتساءل ساخرًا: حتى إن لم أكن أعرف كيف أفكر، فماذا أفعل بالتفكير في مكانٍ وزمانٍ يُعد فيه التفكير جريمة تودي بمقترفها إلى الهلاك، وتُلقي به في غيابة الحُزن والفقر والمعاناة والنبذ المجتمعي؟! لكنك (...) ستُدرك بعد حين مدى قوة وصواب العبارة؛ فالفلسفة تُعلمنا حقًا كيف نُفكر في العالم بطرقٍ جديدة، وكيف نرى أنفسنا وواقعنا بأعينٍ كُشفت عنها حُجب الإدراك، لاسيما في لحظاتنا الحياتية الفارقة، وكيف نخلع المعنى على وجودنا البائس، وكيف نصنع التاريخ ونُعيد توجيه مسيرته: علمًا وفنًا وثقافة. Truth is a matter of interest not only to philosophers, but to scientists and other researchers in various branches of knowledge. This paper examines Davidson’s views of the concept of truth. In the first section, I provide a brief account of the basic ideas of Davidson’s philosophy. An understanding of Davidson’s philosophy is essential for anyone who wishes to follow recent debates in the philosophy of language, the philosophy of action, the philosophy of logic, and the philosophy of the mind. (...) I give also a brief sketch of the leading traditional theories of truth, i.e., coherence, correspondence and pragmatic theories. In the second section, I give a comprehensive account of Davidson’s main contributions to the truth - the conditions theory of meaning. That the meaning of a sentence can be given by stating the conditions under which it is true, is not a novel idea. It is at least as old as the work of Frege. In addition to Frege, this idea has been held by, among others, Wittgenstein, Carnap, Quine and - as its leader apologist and most recent proponent - Davidson. Before I look at the details of Davidson’s contributions, I show how they relate to the work of Frege, Tarski, and Quine, all of whom greatly influenced Davidson’s theory. Putnam, Dummett, Rorty and many other philosophers rank Davidson among the deflationists. They all think that Tarski’s truth predicates completely capture the concept of truth. This is a mistake. The third section is concerned with this mistake. In the fourth section, I explain Davidson’s criticisms of what he regards as the main other anti-deflationary attempts to characterize truth: views which epistemologize truth on the one hand, and the correspondence theory of truth, on the other hand. يوريكا ... كثيرًا ما تُستخدم هذه الكلمة للإشارة إلى لحظة الكشف العلمي، تلك اللحظة الفارقة التي تُولد فيها فجأة فكرةٌ عبقرية في ذهن العالِم أو الباحث، فتفصل بين ما هو غير موجود وما هو موجود، أو بالأحرى بين ما هو غير معروف للمجتمع العملي وما هو سائد ومستهلك حتى بات غير مُشبع لمعالجة المزيد من الوقائع. فما الذي يدفع إلى مثل هذه اللحظة، وماذا يُمكننا أن نفعل لكي تأتي إلينا ونختبرها بشكلٍ مُتكرر؟!

Science was not far from philosophy in ancient thought, but the two were one thing. I do not know whether the ancient philosophers considered themselves the issue of the relationship between them, as the modern and contemporary philosophers did. But the sure thing is that the natural sciences became independent from philosophy in the modern era, and most of the scientific departments in universities were divided into two parts: sciences, literature, and humanities. At the end of the nineteenth century and (...) what followed, there were attempts to link them. Charles Peirce wrote on the scientific method and scientific metaphysics. The Vienna Circle presented a scientific conception of the world and the logical empiricists and Popper was concerned with the problem of distinguishing science from pseudoscience. The logical empiricists provided the criterion of verifiability, and Popper proposed the falsification principle. Quine defended a natural epistemology that asserts that philosophy is part of natural science. Bunge offered his own criteria for distinguishing science in the context of scientific philosophy. In this article, I want to refute the claim that philosophy has died and that science does not need it. I proved that the notion that philosophy is useless to science is not only wrong but also harmful to society, education, and science itself. A utopia is an ideal society that does not exist, which the author conceives better than the society in which he lives. A predilection for it is a social dream driven by a narrowing of reality and a desire for a better way of life. All forms of philosophical, social, scientific, religious and literary utopia raise questions such as: Can the way we live be improved? This article aims to address the concept of a utopia in an analytical way, and discusses the most prominent images of utopias such as Plato's Republic, Al-Farabi's Utopia, More's Utopia, Bacon's The New Atlantis, Skinner's Walden Two. It shows that utopia is the mirror of human hope. People see in it themselves and love what they love and hate from it what they hate. Philosophical inquiry on the problem of meaning is as old as philosophy. There are two approaches to the study of meaning . the first is associated with formal theories of meaning, proposed by Frege, earlier Wittgenstein, Quine, Davidson and Dummett. The second is associated with use theories of meaning, which was supported by later Wittgenstein , Austin, Grice, Strawson and Searle. Formal theories are concerned with the formal structure of language and the interrelations between sentences. The use theories put central (...) emphasis on speakers and what they do in their account of meaning. Paul H. Grice (1913-1988) - English philosopher- gives central place to speakers and their intentions when accounting for meaning. The Gricean intentionalistic theory of meaning can be regarded as having two stages. The first aims to analyze a concept of speaker’s meaning. The second aims to use the concept of speaker’s meaning, along with the notion of a convention, as the foundation of theory of linguistic meaning. This paper seeks to achieve the following aims : 1- Providing a critical examination of Grice’s theory. 2- Discussing the most important objections to this theory and modifications which have been suggested by philosophers wishing to refine it, such as Strawson, Searle and others. 3- Forging important connections between intentionalist theory ( in semantics ) and theory of conversational implicature ( in pargmatics). In my mind, the two theories are supportive and the first serves as a foundation for the second. إن البحث الفلسفي في مشكلة المعنى قديم قدم الفلسفة . وهناك طريقتان لدراسة المعنى، ترتبط الأولى بالنظريات الصورية في المعنى التي اقترحها فريجه، وفتجنشتين المبكر، وكواين، وديفيدسون، ودميت. وترتبط الثانية بنظريات الاستعمال في المعنى التي اقترحها فتجنشتين المتأخر، وأوستن، وجرايس، وستراوسون، وسيرل. تهتم النظريات الصورية بالبنية الصورية للغة والعلاقات المتبادلة بين الجمل. وتضع نظريات الاستعمال توكيداً أساسياً على المتكلمين وما يفعلونه في تقريرهم عن المعنى. وبول جرايس ( 1913-1988 ) - الفيلسوف الإنجليزي - هو الفيلسوف الذي أعطى المتكلمين ومقاصدهم مكانة محورية عند تفسير المعنى. ويمكن النظر إلى النظرية القصدية في المعنى عند جرايس على أنها تأتي على مرحلتين : تهدف المرحلة الأولى إلى تحليل مفهوم المعنى لدى المتكلم . وتسعى الثانية إلى استعمال مفهوم المعنى لدى المتكلم ، بالإضافة إلى فكرة الموضعة ، كأساس لنظرية في المعنى اللغوي. ويسعى هذا البحث إلى تحقيق الأهداف التالية: 1- تقديم فحص نقدي لنظرية جرايس في المعنى. 2- مناقشة الاعتراضات المهمة على هذه النظرية والتعديلات التي اقترحها الفلاسفة الذين راموا تنقيحها وتعديلها مثل ستراسون ، وسيرل ، وغيرهما. 3- صياغة العلاقات المهمة بين النظرية القصدية (في علم الدلالة) ونظرية الاقتضاء التخاطبي ( في علم الاستعمال ) والرأي عندي أن النظريتين تؤيد إحداهما الأخرى، وتصلح الأولى أساساً للثانية، وإن شئت فقل : إن الثانية جزء من الأولى. دراسة فى فلسفة العقل عند جون سيرل، مع التركيز على مفهوم القصدية John Searle is one of the most important and influential living philosophers of the last thirty years. The core concept of his philosophy is intentionality. Intentionality is the mind's capacity to direct itself at things or represent them. How does the mind work? How can the human mind represent the external world? Representation is the primary function of our minds. When we believe, think, plan, hope, desire, conceive, we (...) are representing the world, and this makes our mental states intentional states. Do all mental states exhibit intentionality? Do only mental states exhibit intentionality? What is the structure of intentional states? What is the intentionality of perception and action? What is the relation between intentionality and consciousness? What is the relation between the intentionality of mind and intentionality of language? In this monograph, I try to answer these questions and others, and I will reconstruct Searle’s theory of intentionality and evaluate it in the light of the history of intentionality, especially Brentano’s thesis, and recent developments in the philosophy of mind. Hart, Hampshire, Toulmin, Hare, Nowell-Smith, Berlin and Warnock followed them. And this philosophy developed during the period of the fifties a great development made Oxford the center of the most important philosophy in the world. This article aims to discuss Bunge's critique of Popper's falsifiabilism as a criterion for distinguishing science from pseudoscience. Naturalism in philosophy has a long time and rich heritage. In the second half of twentieth century, there have been a number of philosophers who called for naturalizing epistemology. In recent years the movement to naturalize epistemology has become increasingly popular. The interest in naturalistic epistemology traces to W.V.Quine’s paper "Epistemology Naturalized" (1969). In this paper, Quine argued for a new approach to epistemological questions, and he made argument for transforming epistemology into a new discipline by making it a part (...) of natural science. According to Quine, Descartes’s view of epistemology as first philosophy was doomed to failure, because it was pursued outside science. Epistemology, as traditionally practiced, is a normative enterprise. It seeks the standards which might be used to justify our beliefs and judgments. Traditional rationalists and empiricists do agree that search of these standards within natural science would be illegitimate; because the object of traditional epistemology is to provide a ground for natural science. But naturalists reject the autonomy of epistemology, and seek continuity between epistemology and natural science. Quine says that I see philosophy not as a priori groundwork for science, but as continuous with science. This paper seeks to achieve the following aims: (1) Determining the different concepts which fall under the heading of naturalistic epistemology. (2) Clarify the arguments provided by naturalistic epistemologists to confirm their theories. (3) Discussing the most important criticisms advanced by philosophers against naturalistic epistemology. (4) Stating our attitude toward naturalistic epistemology through defending the "moderate epistemic naturalism". Since strong naturalistic epistemology, in affirmative usage, amounts to scientism, this paper seeks to answer a general question about the legitimacy of scientism. (shrink)

It is impossible for people to change their thoughts without changing their ways of using language. Any renewal in thought must begin with an analysis of the nature of language, its functions, and its limits, and reveal its relation to reality and to the linguistic community that uses it. At the beginning of the last century, philosophers of analysis asked: Is there a way to real progress in philosophy? The answer was yes, and the method for that is the linguistic and logical analysis of propositions of thought, and this was known as the linguistic turn. This new method found an application in contemporary Arab thought with Zaki Naguib Mahmoud, who made language and its analysis the focus of his philosophical doctrine. This analysis concluded that the function of language worthy of the philosopher's attention is to inform or refer to the external world. The task of philosophy became to analyze the logic (language) of science. Where does Zaki Naguib fall in the linguistic turn, and what are the features of the analytical method in his view? How was the way to apply it, and was he successful in that? What is the role of language in solving the problems of philosophy? What is its role in renewing Arab thought? The primary function that philosophy has to perform is analysis of meanings. Contemporary philosophy is a story of the idea of meaning, in the words of Gilbert Ryle. The study of meaning in our time takes several ways. Two ways come in the forefront. The first relates to the formal theories proposed by Frege, earlier Wittgenstein, Quine, Chomsky and Dummmett. The second relates to the theories of use suggested by the later Wittgenstein, Austin, Ryle, Strawson, Grice and Searle. Purpose: This study investigates how international standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 26000 influence the perception and adoption of sustainable and responsible practices in Algerian SMEs. By comparing certified and non-certified firms, it evaluates the contribution of these standards to sustainable management and entrepreneurship. -/- Design/Method/Approach: A quantitative, empirical, and comparative approach was applied to assess awareness and integration of responsible management principles. Data were gathered through structured questionnaires and interviews across two SME groups – certified and (...) non-certified – allowing comparative analysis of key areas such as corporate policy, strategy, stakeholder engagement, internal processes, and training. -/- Findings: Certified SMEs show a stronger understanding and integration of sustainability principles, reflected in more structured governance and environmental practices. Certification under ISO standards significantly correlates with better management of environmental and workplace concerns. Statistical analysis confirms that certified SMEs more effectively embed sustainability into their operations, enhancing competitiveness. -/- Theoretical Implications: The findings underscore the essential function of international standards as both regulatory and managerial frameworks that promote sustainable management practices. The study supports the argument that structured models of sustainability, such as those embedded in ISO certifications, are fundamental for SMEs seeking to align with international environmental and social expectations. At the same time, the results point to the need for stronger support mechanisms – such as financial incentives and expert guidance – to assist SMEs in fully adopting these practices. -/- Practical Implications: The practical significance of the study lies in several areas. It suggests that government and business institutions should actively promote SME access to international standards by offering supportive certification incentives. Furthermore, it highlights the strategic advantage for SMEs in placing sustainability at the core of their business models, particularly as a tool for improved market positioning. It also emphasizes the importance of enhanced communication with stakeholders to increase transparency and build trust in the company’s sustainability initiatives. -/- Originality/Value: This research offers a new comparative perspective on the role of ISO certifications in shaping sustainable practices within SMEs in a developing country. Unlike earlier studies that focused primarily on large enterprises, this paper illustrates how international standards can serve as a transformative force for small and medium-sized businesses by promoting sustainable entrepreneurship and more responsible management. -/- Research Limitations/Future Research: While the study offers valuable insights, its scope is limited to a sample of 30 Algerian SMEs, which restricts the generalizability of the results. Future research could benefit from a larger and more diverse sample across sectors and regions. Longitudinal studies would provide a clearer view of the long-term effects of ISO certification on SME sustainability. Further investigation into sector-specific barriers and the role of external financial and institutional support could deepen understanding of the adoption and impact of sustainability standards. Come to think of it: what has postcolonialism done to colonization in the past few decades, save passively reflecting on it and its realities that often do not fit the reality of things? How much leeway does postcolonialism give its critic in expressing opposition to colonization? And how does it rate as a field for serious decolonization? As a start toward answering these questions, (...) or coming close to answering them, the following pages offer a commentary on how I feel about postcolonialism. I will confine myself to one particular reason I consider postcolonialism a dismal failure, which is incontestable and will hopefully startle the dull reader into alertness. Street-level bureaucrats are a fundamental part of the implementation process of any policy. This study provides an examination of the factors that shape the behavior of street-level bureaucrats at the frontlines of policy implementation. This study investigates how rebelliousness generates an impact on the discretion of street-level bureaucrats and to what extent client meaningfulness plays a moderating factor. It utilizes a survey questionnaire distributed among inspectors of the Department of Labor in the Ministry of Human Resources of Malaysia (n=241). The (...) result of this study demonstrates that rebelliousness has a negative relationship with discretion, and client meaningfulness has a direct positive correlation with discretion. However, the relationship between rebelliousness and discretion is stronger with a high level of client meaningfulness. The objective of this study is to examine street-level bureaucrat behavior through the lens of Lipsky's theory which will provide an answer to the broad question of the factors that contribute to the existence of an imperfect implementation process. This study sheds light on the importance of client meaningfulness in moderating the behavior of street-level bureaucrats while interacting with inspectees. The novelty of this study is by highlighting two main constructs that are likely contributing to the implementation process by directly and indirectly impacting bureaucrats’ discretion: rebelliousness, and client meaningfulness. Regulatory enforcement is a multifaceted phenomenon that revolves around the concept of discretion of Street-Level Bureaucrats (SLBs). Discretion can be defined as the ability to freely decide how to deliver services to the clients/public. Regulations are enforced by the decisions made by bureaucrats when they interact with clients. By combining street-level bureaucracy and responsive regulation theories, this study is set to examine how different factors shape the discretion of street-level bureaucrats. This study is built on available literature pertaining to SLBs (...) and policy implementation to provide a comprehensive understanding of regulation enforcement in Malaysia. SLBs are the Labor Inspectors responsible for the enforcement of minimum wage in Malaysia. The study’s main contribution is examining how personal characteristics, internal organizational factors, and a multidimensional enforcement style shape the discretion of bureaucrats in Malaysia. The study’s main finding highlights that Labor Inspectors in Malaysia demonstrate a range of enforcement style dimensions when enforcing the minimum wage. The novelty of this thesis highlights two primary constructs; willingness to implement and client meaningfulness, and their importance in shaping policy implementation and its effect on street-level bureaucrats' behavior. These constructs are also likely contributing to the imperfect enforcement of the minimum wage policy. Furthermore, this study demonstrates that enforcement style consists of three dimensions; legal, facilitation, and accommodation. Finally, this study's empirical finding highlights that street-level bureaucrats' discretion is influenced by various factors that ultimately define the enforcement process. (shrink)

It is a matter of fact that Europe is facing more and more crucial challenges regarding health and social care due to the demographic change and the current economic context. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has stressed this situation even further, thus highlighting the need for taking action. Active and Assisted Living technologies come as a viable approach to help facing these challenges, thanks to the high potential they have in enabling remote care and support. Broadly speaking, AAL can be referred (...) to as the use of innovative and advanced Information and Communication Technologies to create supportive, inclusive and empowering applications and environments that enable older, impaired or frail people to live independently and stay active longer in society. AAL capitalizes on the growing pervasiveness and effectiveness of sensing and computing facilities to supply the persons in need with smart assistance, by responding to their necessities of autonomy, independence, comfort, security and safety. The application scenarios addressed by AAL are complex, due to the inherent heterogeneity of the end-user population, their living arrangements, and their physical conditions or impairment. Despite aiming at diverse goals, AAL systems should share some common characteristics. They are designed to provide support in daily life in an invisible, unobtrusive and user-friendly manner. Moreover, they are conceived to be intelligent, to be able to learn and adapt to the requirements and requests of the assisted people, and to synchronise with their specific needs. Nevertheless, to ensure the uptake of AAL in society, potential users must be willing to use AAL applications and to integrate them in their daily environments and lives. In this respect, video- and audio-based AAL applications have several advantages, in terms of unobtrusiveness and information richness. Indeed, cameras and microphones are far less obtrusive with respect to the hindrance other wearable sensors may cause to one’s activities. In addition, a single camera placed in a room can record most of the activities performed in the room, thus replacing many other non-visual sensors. Currently, video-based applications are effective in recognising and monitoring the activities, the movements, and the overall conditions of the assisted individuals as well as to assess their vital parameters. Similarly, audio sensors have the potential to become one of the most important modalities for interaction with AAL systems, as they can have a large range of sensing, do not require physical presence at a particular location and are physically intangible. Moreover, relevant information about individuals’ activities and health status can derive from processing audio signals. Nevertheless, as the other side of the coin, cameras and microphones are often perceived as the most intrusive technologies from the viewpoint of the privacy of the monitored individuals. This is due to the richness of the information these technologies convey and the intimate setting where they may be deployed. Solutions able to ensure privacy preservation by context and by design, as well as to ensure high legal and ethical standards are in high demand. After the review of the current state of play and the discussion in GoodBrother, we may claim that the first solutions in this direction are starting to appear in the literature. A multidisciplinary debate among experts and stakeholders is paving the way towards AAL ensuring ergonomics, usability, acceptance and privacy preservation. The DIANA, PAAL, and VisuAAL projects are examples of this fresh approach. This report provides the reader with a review of the most recent advances in audio- and video-based monitoring technologies for AAL. It has been drafted as a collective effort of WG3 to supply an introduction to AAL, its evolution over time and its main functional and technological underpinnings. In this respect, the report contributes to the field with the outline of a new generation of ethical-aware AAL technologies and a proposal for a novel comprehensive taxonomy of AAL systems and applications. Moreover, the report allows non-technical readers to gather an overview of the main components of an AAL system and how these function and interact with the end-users. The report illustrates the state of the art of the most successful AAL applications and functions based on audio and video data, namely lifelogging and self-monitoring, remote monitoring of vital signs, emotional state recognition, food intake monitoring, activity and behaviour recognition, activity and personal assistance, gesture recognition, fall detection and prevention, mobility assessment and frailty recognition, and cognitive and motor rehabilitation. For these application scenarios, the report illustrates the state of play in terms of scientific advances, available products and research project. The open challenges are also highlighted. The report ends with an overview of the challenges, the hindrances and the opportunities posed by the uptake in real world settings of AAL technologies. In this respect, the report illustrates the current procedural and technological approaches to cope with acceptability, usability and trust in the AAL technology, by surveying strategies and approaches to co-design, to privacy preservation in video and audio data, to transparency and explainability in data processing, and to data transmission and communication. Prophet (pbuh) has given notice that the Salah [prayer] is the first deed in which the Muslim servant will be brought to account on the Day of Judgement. The Prophet (pbuh) also informed that if the believer’s obligatory (fardh) prayers are lacking this will be made up from voluntary (nawafil) prayers and that the servant comes close to Allah by fulfilling obligatories and continues to draw near to him with voluntary deeds. One of nawafil is the prayer which is (...) performed before and after the obligatory Friday prayer. When we examine the Prophetic narrations about those prayers -which is also called the first and the second sunnah- and their authenticity, we witness that the Prophet (pbuh) performed prayers in differing raka’ah numbers after the obligatory Friday prayer and urged to it, but there is no authentic and clear traditon indicating that He (pbuh) perfomed any prayer before it. However, by taking into account some general statements of Prophet (pbuh), some weak narrations and some practices of companions it has been said that the Friday prayer has a sunnah before it and moreover it is a Sunnah Muakkadah (stressed sunnah) which is performed in two or four raka’ahs. This article aims to present the narrations about whether the Prophet (pbuh) and companions used to perform any prayers before and after the obligatory Juma’ prayer and their number of raka’s, to determine their authenticity and to evaluate them by reporting the comments about them. This book discusses two of the oldest and hardest problems in both science and philosophy: What is matter?, and What is mind? Saya sangat terbiasa dengan buku aneh dan khusus orang, tapi Hawkins berdiri keluar karena penggunaan teknik sederhana untuk menguji ketegangan otot sebagai kunci untuk "kebenaran" dari segala jenis pernyataan apa pun-i. e., bukan hanya untuk Apakah orang yang diuji percaya, tapi apakah itu benar-benar benar! Apa yang terkenal adalah bahwa orang akan menunjukkan otomatis, gangguan fisiologis dan psikologis pingsan untuk apa saja mereka terpapar-gambar, suara, sentuhan, bau, ide, orang. Jadi, membaca otot untuk mengetahui perasaan mereka yang sebenarnya tidak radikal sama (...) sekali, tidak seperti menggunakannya sebagai tongkat menyiram (lebih otot membaca) untuk melakukan "ilmu paranormal". Hawkins menjelaskan penggunaan penurunan ketegangan pada otot lengan dalam menanggapi peningkatan beban kognitif sehingga menyebabkan lengan turun dalam menanggapi tekanan konstan jari seseorang. Dia tampaknya tidak menyadari bahwa ada yang lama didirikan dan luas upaya penelitian yang berkelanjutan dalam psikologi sosial disebut dengan frase seperti ' implisit kognisi ', ' automatisitas ' dll, dan bahwa penggunaan ' Kinesiology ' adalah salah satu bagian kecil. تأملات فلسفية حول تفشي فيروس كورونا (كوفيد-19) وأبعاده الاجتماعية والسياسية والدينية والعلمية.

لا أحبذ عادةً نظرية المؤامرة في معالجة أية ظاهرة طارئة أو حدث مؤثر، لكن الحُجج التي تسوقها النظرية فيما يتعلق بجائحة كورونا جديرة بالقراءة المتأنية والتأمل والنقاش، أو على الأقل جديرة بالمعرفة، لاسيما وأن من يتبناها كتابٌ كبار مثل البريطانيين «ديفيد آيك»، و«فيرنون كولمان» (الأول له أكثر من عشرين كتابًا في نظريات التلاعب بالعقول، والثاني له أكثر من مائة كتاب في الصحة العامة والسياسة وحقوق الحيوان). مؤدي النظرية باختصار أن فيروس كورونا جزءٌ من خطة تحويها أجندة سياسية – اقتصادية دولية (...) خفية، وأنه مجرد حلقة من حلقات سابقة وتالية من الفيروسات المُخلَّقة معمليًا (ذات السلالات المُوجهة المختلفة) لتحقيق أهداف معينة عن طريق بث الرعب في نفوس الناس. فما هي هذه الأهداف؟ وما دلائلها؟ ولماذا تُبالغ الحكومات ووسائل الإعلام في بث الرُعب والفزع منذ اللحظة الأولى لظهور فيروس كورونا . لأننا نعيش في عالم يكتنفه الغموض من كل جانب؛ عالم تتسم معرفتنا لأحداثه ووقائعه بالتناقض واللاتحديد، وتُفصح قضايانا اللغوية الواصفة له عن الصدق تارة وعن الكذب تارة أخرى، فنحن في حاجة إلى فلسفة جديدة تعكس حقيقة رؤيتنا النسبية لهذا العالم وقصور معرفتنا به؛ ونحن في حاجة إلى نسقٍِ منطقي يُلائم معطياته غير المكتملة ويُشبع معالجاتنا لها، سواء على مستوى ممارسات الحياة اليومية أو على مستوى الممارسة العلمية بمختلف أشكالها. والفلسفة التي يقترحها هذا الكتاب هي «النيوتروسوفيا»؛ تلك النظرية التي قدمها الفيلسوف (...) والرياضي الأمريكي «فلورنتن سمارانداكه» العام 1995 كتعميم للنزعة الجدلية، والتي تكشف بأسلوب جديد عن تناقضات الفكر وحركته الدائبة والمتصلة بين الصدق والكذب، وتُعيد لملكة السلب هيبتها المفقودة لدى العقل القانع بوهم الثبات المطلق. ومن هذه النظرية ينبثق المنطق النيوتروسوفي كتعميم لأنساق المنطق المعاصر متعدد القيم، لاسيما المنطق الحدسي الغائم. ورغم حداثة النظرية والنسق، وتعدد مجالات تطبيقهما في الفكر الغربي المعاصر، وبصفة خاصة مجالات العلم التقني، إلا أن ثمة استخدامات أخرى لهما لدى مفكري العرب والإسلام إبان مرحلة ازدهار الحضارة الإسلامية، وهو ما يكشف عنه الكتاب من خلال دراسة منطقية مقارنة، تميط اللثام عن أصالة وخصوبة الفكر العربي، فضلاً عن تحرره وتسامحه وجمعه بين الرأي والرأي الآخر، في وقت يوسم فيه من قبل الغرب بالانغلاقية، والتشدد، والتحجر، ورفض الآخر، وخصومة الحوار الجدلي. لقد بُذلت محاولات عديدة لتجاوز غموض قضايا العلوم الطبيعية والإنسانية من قبل المناطقة وفلاسفة اللغة، لا سيما خلال القرن العشرين، لكن تبرز منها محاولتان أكثر أهمية من غيرهما؛ تجلت الأولى في تطوير المنطق الرمزي الكلاسيكي ثنائي القيم إلى ما يُعرف بالمنطق متعدد القيم. ووفقًا لهذا الأخير لم يعد الحكم المنطقي – على أية قضية – مقصورًا على قيمتي الصدق التقليديتين: صادقة & كاذبة، كما يقضي بذلك قانون الثالث المرفوع، بل بات لدينا عدد لا متناه من القيم المتصلة التي تتوسط بين (...) الصدق التام والكذب التام. ورغم النجاح النسبي لهذه المحاولة – التي ما زالت تخضع للتطوير والتعديل – إلا أن المشكلة الأساسية ما زالت تطل برأسها في كل استخدام للكلمات وقضايا اللغة، فإذا كان المنطق متعدد القيم قد نجح في التعبير الواضح عن غموض المعرفة، إلا أنه لم يُبدد الغموض ذاته. أما المحاولة الثانية فقد تمثلت في نزعة التقييم الفائق، التي تفترض وجود عدد من التقييمات المقبولة لكل مصطلح غامض أو قضية غامضة. وليست هذه التقييمات في الحقيقة مجرد كيانات خالصة لا علاقة لها بالواقع، بل إن كل تقييم منها – كما تفترض النزعة – هو بمثابة تحديد لكيان واقعي نشير إليه بالاسم أو المصطلح محل الدراسة، ومن ثم فهو يعكس موجودًا فعليًا له حدوده الدقيقة المميزة له عن غيره. ويلزم عن ذلك أننا إذا كنا نقبل العديد من التقييمات المختلفة والمتنوعة لمصطلح واحد، فعلينا أن نقبل أيضًا وجود العديد من الكيانات الواقعية التي يشير إليها ذلك المصطلح الواحد. هذا ما نسعى إلى معالجته في هذا البحث، انطلاقًا من فرضٍ رئيس مؤداه أن ما واجه المنطق الكلاسيكي من مشكلات أدت إلى تطويره، لاسيما مشكلة الغموض، قد واجه بالمثل المنطق متعدد القيم، ولابد وأن يواجه أيضًا أية مقاربة مهما اختلفت أدواتها؛ فالغموض فيما نزعم ظاهرة إبستمولوجية في المحل الأول، مردودها إلى الذات العارفة وقصور إمكاناتها الإدراكية والقياسية، لا إلى الوجود ذاته. وبعبارة أخرى، نزعم من خلال هذه الورقة أن أية مقاربة لمشكلة الغموض ما هي إلا حلقة من حلقات العلاقة الجدلية اللامنتهية بين الإنسان والطبيعة، أو فلنقل بين ما هو مدرك وما هو موجود بالفعل. وقد ركزنا على قضايا وتصورات الجغرافيا كنموذج للتطبيق باعتبارها أحد أقرب العلوم الإنسانية إلى العلوم الطبيعية، وإن كنا نرى أن عمومية مشكلة الغموض – بأبعادها المختلفة – تُحيل أي علم إلى علم إنساني. على الأرجح لا يوجد إله ... الآن، دع القلق واستمتع بالحياة ... إنه شعار الملحدين الجُدد! لا أعني بذلك أولئك الرويبضات الذين يُظهرون غير ما يبطنون، ويتخذون من تطورات العلم وقشور الفلسفة أداةً براقة لجذب الشباب وإغوائهم بالإلحاد، ويعمدون إلى الصلاة في معابد الشيطان من أجل النفس التواقة إلى إشباع شهواتها بغير ضابط ولا رابط. هؤلاء تجدهم وأتباعهم في الغرب إفرازًا طبيعيًا للخواء الروحي وهيمنة رأس المال، وتجدهم ومريديهم في الشرق نبتًا عفنًا للاستبداد السياسي والتفسخ الاجتماعي والمظهرية الحضارية الكاذبة بكافة (...) أشكالها، لاسيما الدينية منها! إنما أعنى بالأحرى نفرًا من الفلاسفة والعلماء الذين يُشكلون منذ سنة 2006 تقريبًا ما اصطلح على تسميتها «النزعة الإلحادية الجديدة»، من أمثال البيولوجي الإنجليزي «كلينتون ريتشارد داوكينز»، والفيلسوف وعالم الأعصاب الأمريكي «صمويل بنيامين سام هاريس»، والصحافي والكاتب والناقد الديني الأمريكي «كريستوفر إريك هيتشنز»، وفيلسوف العلم الأمريكي، وقد سُمي هؤلاء الأربعة «الفرسان الأربعة» (في مقابل فرسان رؤيا يوحنا الأربعة في الكتاب المقدس المسيحي)، بعد لقائهم في الثلاثين من سبتمبر سنة 2007 في مقر إقامة «هيتشنز» في العاصمة الأمريكية واشنطن. فما هذه النزعة؟ وما أهم أفكارها؟ . يواجه الإنسان أسئلة صعبة من قبيل من أنا؟ وما الحياة، وما الكون؟ ويلتمس الإجابة من الدين والعلم والفلسفة. وفي إطار البحث عن الذات، يظهر سؤال الوعي الذي أربك أعظم العقول، من الشبح في الآلة إلى صعود علم النفس التجريبي إلى عصر الوعي. تعالج الفلسفة المشكلة الصعبة، ويحاول علم الأعصاب العثور على الأساس العصبي للوعي، وينظر علم الكمبيوتر إلى أجهزة الكمبيوتر على أنها أمخاخ ويبحث في الآلات الواعية، وتحاول فيزياء الكم اكتشاف الدور الأساسي للوعي في العالم المادي. ورغم ذلك يبدو تفسير (...) طبيعة الوعي أمراً بعيد المنال. في هذا المقال محاولة لإلقاء الضوء على تفسير الوعي بين الفلسفة والعلم من خلال النظر فيما انتهى إليه الرهان بين كريستوف كوخ وديفيد تشالمرز حول تحديد المتلازم العصبي للوعي. تحميل العقل ومستقبل الخلود الرقمي لم يكن فلاسفة العقل في القرن الماضي يفكرون في مستقبل العقل ولا يحفلون بما يتصل به من النبوءات مثلما يفعلون الآن. ويرجع ذلك إلى سببين. فأما أحدهما فهو أنهم قد شغلوا أنفسهم بتحليل جغرافيا العقل والحالات العقلية. وأما الآخر فهو أن التقدم في دراسات المخ وتصويره، وفي الذكاء الاصطناعي، لم يكن قد بلغ حداً يسمح لهم بوضع بعض النبوءات حول ما سيصير إليه حال العقل، مثل تحميل العقل. وهناك ثلاثة تطبيقات تكنولوجية محتملة من شأنها أن (...) توسع قدراتنا العقلية وتعززها: وهي تمديد العقل، ودمج العقل، وتحميل العقل. ترتبط هذه التطبيقات بعلاقة وثيقة هي التحرر من المخ. ويعالج هذا المقال التطبيق الثالث، فيوضح أصوله العلمية والتقنية في الإنسانية المتعالية والتفرد التكنولوجي، ويبين معنى التحميل، وأنواعه. -/- Philosophers of mind in the last century did not consider the future of the mind or its associated prophecies as much as they do now. This is due to two reasons. First, they were preoccupied with analyzing the geography of the mind and mental states. Second, advances in brain studies and imaging, as well as in artificial intelligence, had not yet reached a point where they could make predictions about the future of the mind, such as mind uploading. There are three potential technological applications that could expand and enhance our mental capabilities: mind extension, mind merger, and mind uploading. These applications are closely related to the concept of liberation from the brain. الذكاء الاصطناعي العاطفي»، ويُعرف أيضًا باسم «الحوسبة العاطفية»، و«الذكاء الاصطناعي المتمركز حول الإنسان»، و«الذكاء الاصطناعي الاجتماعي»، مفهوم جديد نسبيًا (ما زالت تقنياته في طور التطوير)، وهو أحد مجالات علوم الحاسوب الهادفة إلى تطوير آلات قادرة على فهم المشاعر البشرية. يشير المفهوم ببساطة إلى اكتشاف وبرمجة المشاعر الإنسانية بُغية تحسين الذكاء الاصطناعي، وتوسيع نطاق استخدامه، بحيث لا يقتصر أداء الروبوتات على تحليل الجوانب المعرفية (المنطقية) والتفاعل معها فحسب، بل والامتداد بالتحليل والتفاعل إلى الجوانب العاطفية للتواصل البشري.

العقل بوصفه مُخًّا – د. صلاح إسماعيل Mind as brain Salah Ismail -/- سؤال يُلقيه الإنسان على نفسه، ويُلقيه الفلاسفة والعلماء بعضهم على بعض، وتختلف الإجابات عنه بإختلاف العصور وما يكتسبه الناس من المعرفة والعلم. ولست أدرى أكان القدماء يفكرون في جوانبه مثل ما نفكر فيه الآن أم لا. وأكبر الظنّ أن التقدم الذى حدث في دراسة المخ وتصويره أثر أعظم الأثر في فهم هذا السؤال: ما هو هذا الشيء الذى يسمى عقلًا؟ وإذا نحّينا جانبا الجواب العام الذى مؤداه (...) أن العقل قوة للنفس تشمل الحواس الظاهرة والباطنة، وأنه ملَكَة يدرك بها الإنسان حقائق الأشياء، وجدنا الفلاسفة والعلماء يختلفون حين يريدون تصوير طبيعة العقل. فبعضهم يقول إن العقل شيء غير فيزيائي مثل النفس ( أو هو النفس عند ديكارت)، وهو جوهر متميز عن الجسم، وهؤلاء هم أصحاب ثنائية الجوهر. وبعضهم يقول إن العقل ليس شيئًا، وإنما هو استعداد للسلوك، وهؤلاء هم أنصار السلوكية. وبعضهم يقول إن العقل شيء فيزيائي هو المخ، وهؤلاء هم أصحاب نظرية الهُوية. وبعضهم يقول من الأفضل فهمه بوصفه مجموعة من الوظائف بدلًا من أن يكون شيئًا، وهؤلاء هم أتباع الوظيفية. وتدور هذه المقالة حول نظرية الهُوية. تُعد أخلاقيات الآلة جزءًا من أخلاقيات الذكاء الاصطناعي المعنية بإضافة أو ضمان السلوكيات الأخلاقية للآلات التي صنعها الإنسان، والتي تستخدم الذكاء الاصطناعي، وهي تختلف عن المجالات الأخلاقية الأخرى المتعلقة بالهندسة والتكنولوجيا، فلا ينبغي الخلط مثلاً بين أخلاقيات الآلة وأخلاقيات الحاسوب، إذ تركز هذه الأخيرة على القضايا الأخلاقية المرتبطة باستخدام الإنسان لأجهزة الحاسوب؛ كما يجب أيضًا تمييز مجال أخلاقيات الآلة عن فلسفة التكنولوجيا، والتي تهتم بالمقاربات الإبستمولوجية والأنطولوجية والأخلاقية، والتأثيرات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والسياسية الكبرى، للممارسات التكنولوجية على تنوعها؛ أما أخلاقيات الآلة فتعني (...) بضمان أن سلوك الآلات تجاه المستخدمين من البشر، وربما تجاه الآلات الأخرى أيضًا، مقبول أخلاقيًا. الأخلاقيات التي نعنيها هنا إذن هي أخلاقيات يجب أن تتحلى بها الآلات كأشياء، وليس البشر كمصنعين ومستخدمين لهذه الآلات! لا شك أن بعض الوصايا التي تحملها أحجار جورجيا الإرشادية يتسم بالحكمة والنبل، ومن ثم يستحق الثناء ومحاولة التطبيق، لكن أغلبها في الحقيقة يحمل أفكارًا تستدعي بقوة نظريات المؤامرة بأشكالها المختلفة، لاسيما تلك التي تتعلق بطوفان العولمة وهيمنة رأس المال وبقاء الأصلح ومناهضة الأديان. لا شك أيضًا أن ثمة تفسيرًا جديرًا بالتأمل لهالة الغموض التي أحيط بها النُصب وبُناته، مؤداه أن هذا الغموض لا يعدو أن يكون مجرد نوعٍ من أنواع الترويج السياحي للنُصب ولولاية جورجيا، لكن الأحداث الجارية تقدم سببًا (...) للتوقف وإعادة التفكير في الأمر منذ بدايته. كان «فريجه» – على حد تعبير «دامت» – من أوائل من أدركوا أن نظرية المعنى، أو فلسفة اللغة، هي جزءٌ اساسي من الفلسفة ترتكز عليه كافة الأجزاء الاخرى؛ فإلى جانب دراساته التأسيسية الرائدة في الرياضيات والمنطق، كان يُؤسس ايضًا لفلسفة اللغة ببعض المقالات التي فاقت في تاثيرها وشهرتها تاثير وشهرة معظم أعماله الرياضية الأخرى، دون إقلال من شان هذه الأخيرة وريادتها. وهذه الدراسة بمثابة قراءة تحليلية – نقدية لمقاله الأكثر أهمية في هذا الصدد «في المعنى والإشارة»، مشفوعة بترجمة إلى العربية (...) للجزء الأكبر والاهم منه.
