Extending principles from information thermodynamics and predictive coding, we define RE as the ratio of system viability gain to the energy cost of ambiguity resolution and coordination. Formally grounded in non-equilibrium systems theory, we derive RE from the Resonance Model, which reframes cognition as recursive constraint-resolution and introduces the Coherent Ignorance Theorem.
