The stamp is one of 10 new U.S. Postal Service Forever stamps celebrating different types of Barbie’s careers. The stamp features Sign Language Teacher Barbie, introduced in a 2000 Barbie playset. She wears a light-blue sweater, plaid skirt, and beaded necklace, and is shown signing “I love you” in American Sign Language. The stamp highlights sign language education as part of Barbie’s broader message that people can pursue many different careers while celebrating the importance of sign language in communication. Try it out here: https://lnkd.in/epXHjkPE This new version includes all the updated terminology that we introduced in WCAG-EM 2 (https://lnkd.in/edBmhF4S), that was published on 23rd July, and updated language across, to make it a little less verbose. I was actively involved in designing and building the current version of the tool six years ago and collaborated with the W3C WAI team to create this update to align with WCAG-EM 2. Happy evaluating! In this post, we explore why extra time to meet accessibility requirements must not become another excuse for inaction. Accessibility barriers are still impacting real people today, and the need for equitable access has not changed. Meaningful accessibility requires more than quick fixes or automated tools. It takes thoughtful planning, training, procurement practices, and an ongoing commitment to stop creating new barriers while addressing existing ones. The deadline moved. The obligation did not. GitHub has added an “accessibility” label to the default labels available for new repositories, with the description: Accessibility - Barrier affecting people with disabilities Accessibility issues are often filed under broad labels like “bug,” “enhancement,” or “question,” which can make them harder to find and prioritize. Having a dedicated label gives maintainers and contributors a clearer way to identify, track, and address accessibility barriers. I’m glad to have contributed to this initiative and to help make accessibility more visible and encourage more inclusive development across open source projects.
