The Molex port is usually on the backside of the controller, I'm guessing but I think you need to look behind the black panel with the controller that you haven't opened. The sticker on the controller marks this as an Evolution not an Evolution 2, and the panel looks like it's on a liquid cooled rather than an air cooled. The PintSize products are the same regardless of the controller, I just ask in case support requests come up as there are a few minor differences in the controllers for their configuration or what data they report, but the hardware is the same in all cases. |

You have a liquid cooled until. @skipfire is correct, the molex is on the back side of the controller. There is an area behind the controller. This is where I route my cables. You can not see the molex (but you can feel it) without unscrewing some of the bolts holding the controller. |

Great! Progress! Found 8 pin molex and there are only two wires running into it. Tracing the wires back to the Generac WiFi Module it would appear that two of the eight wires run to the auxiliary port whereas the remaining 4 wires look to be wrapped in a cat-5 like cable and go into the actual generator (perhaps to a battery). I 'tried' to connect the RPI to the USB port on the front with no success as it did not seem to power on, but I had enclosed the RPI into the generator and reattached the cover so I can't be absolutely certain. Would the best option to be to use the existing 6 wires and connect them to an 8pin molex following some sort of diagram somewhere in the Wiki or is there an easier solution? My ultimate aim would be to get the RPI out of the generac altogether as I have seen several posts about the metal enclosure wrecking the WiFi and also its would be a pain to remove the cover should I ever need to physically access the rPI. So if anyone has suggestions on what they did, that would be great! |

Hi @JDogg016 Detail on the pinout for the molex are on this page: https://github.com/jgyates/genmon/wiki/3.1--Making-a-Cable Unless you are wanting over the network firmware updates (those do not occur that often on Liquid Cooled units) the generac wifi does not offer a lot. If you want the RPI out of the generac enclosure, the question becomes "how far of a cable run do you need to make". Some people have used RS-232 straight from the controller. The spec says this can be done up to 50 feet but in practice it is probably longer than that, probably up to 100 feet. Others have used Ethernet with a serial to ethernet bridge as described here. You can also use wifi instead of Ethernet but you really need a good signal as wifi is prone to packet loss if the signal is not excellent. Some others have used RS-422 as described here if you have a very long cable run to the 8000 generator. Personally I have a cable run that is in the 300 foot range, so I use RS-422, but I have also used wifi and Ethernet in the past. At that distance RS422 works excellent. Ethernet was doable but at this disance RS422 was the better option from me. If you have shorter distances you will likely be OK with other options. Let me know if you have any questions. |

I've extended my Molex with 150ft Cat6 (I used my RJ45 adapter kit, but splicing would have the same effect), I don't know the absolute max that it could go and that would likely vary by what kind of Category cable you get and what is near its run. RS-232's potential length increases as the bitrate decreases and 9600 should good beyond 50 meters, while 115,200 may only get 5 meters. Aside from the Mitsubishi 4.5L I believe all the Generacs run at 9600 baud. @JDogg016 many of the MobileLinks prior to the Evolution 2 controllers do have cables that have 2 signal wires to the accessory port and 2 wires to the battery for power. I believe the easiest way to hook up is to just use the cable that came with the HAT, what are you trying to make easier than just plugging the cable in? I don't have a liquid cooled I can go access to know if there is something unique to it that makes the install significantly different than air cooled. |

Forgive me because I am not so handy and have a phobia about working around electronics. I managed to remove the panel of my Generac RG03824ANAX and cannot find an 8 pin molex port. I do see a 6 pin connection going into the wifi link.
When I purchased the HAT I selected Evolution 2.0 because my model is an Evolution 2.0. Is the molex port someplace else or do I need something to convert the 8pin molex to a 6 pin molex?
