People have tried this but tbh the repo and instructions are really not set up for that. Running PocketHost is complex and while it's open source, I don't have the extra time to create docs for self-hosting because there are so many considerations. |

First of all, thank you for the amazing project! I am trying to self-host PocketHost on my own server and I need clarification on some conceptual points. While setting up the .env file, I initially thought that the "Mothership" application handles tasks like routing incoming requests and possibly managing SSL certificates. The SSL_KEY and SSL_CERT variables in the .env.example file, which are for running Node.js directly, made me think this. However, when I tried to set these paths, I got errors saying that the /etc/letsencrypt/.../privkey.pem file couldn’t be found. My question is: In other words, is Mothership mainly responsible for user management, creating and managing instances, and providing the main admin interface, while SSL termination and routing requests by subdomain are handled by something like Traefik? I understand that self-hosting PocketHost can be a complex process, and I appreciate the effort you've put into the project. However, could you provide a brief summary or outline the general steps for setting it up? This way, I can follow the process more clearly and get a better understanding of the steps involved. My setup is Cloudflare in front. It manages all the SSL certs. When a request comes in, PocketHost looks at the If you really want to self-host PocketHost, I think you could help a lot of users by working on decoupling things so Mothership isn't required. Yes, this topic really interests me and I'm very curious about it. Removing the dependency on the Mothership would make PocketHost much more flexible and easier to self-host. The idea of reading a whitelist from a local JSON file also sounds very reasonable and practical. |
