Authors: M. Dragicevic, M. Friedl, J. Hrubec, H. Steininger, A. Gädda, J. Härkönen, T. Lampén, P. Luukka, T. Peltola, E. Tuominen, E. Tuovinen, A. Winkler, P. Eerola, T. Tuuva, G. Baulieu, G. Abstract: A new pixel detector for the CMS experiment was built in order to cope with the instantaneous luminosities anticipated for the Phase~I Upgrade of the LHC. The new CMS pixel detector provides four-hit tracking with a reduced material budget as well as new cooling and powering schemes. A new front-end readout chip mitigates buffering and bandwidth limitations, and allows operation at low comparator… ▽ More

Design and Performance of the Data Acquisition System for the NA61/SHINE Experiment at CERN

Authors: Andras Laszlo, Ervin Denes, Zoltan Fodor, Tivadar Kiss, Stuart Kleinfelder, Csaba Soos, Dariusz Tefelski, Tamas Tolyhi, Gyorgy Vesztergombi, Oskar Wyszynski

Abstract: This paper describes the hardware, firmware and software systems used in data acquisition for the NA61/SHINE experiment at the CERN SPS accelerator. Special emphasis is given to the design parameters of the readout electronics for the 40m^3 volume Time Projection Chamber detectors, as these give the largest contribution to event data among all the subdetectors: events consisting of 8bit ADC values… ▽ More

Abstract: NA61/SHINE (SPS Heavy Ion and Neutrino Experiment) is a multi-purpose experimental facility to study hadron production in hadron-proton, hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. It recorded the first physics data with hadron beams in 2009 and with ion beams (secondary 7Be beams) in 2011. NA61/SHINE has greatly profited from the long development of the C… ▽ More

Abstract: Spectra of K0S mesons and Lambda hyperons were measured in p+C interactions at 31 GeV/c with the large acceptance NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS. The data were collected with an isotropic graphite target with a thickness of 4% of a nuclear interaction length. Interaction cross sections, charged pion spectra, and charged kaon spectra were previously measured using the same data set. Result… ▽ More

Hadron calorimeter with MAPD readout in the NA61/SHINE experiment

    Authors: A. Ivashkin, F. Akhmadov, R. Asfandiyarov, A. Bravar, A. Blondel, W. Dominik, Z. Fodor, M. Gazdzicki, M. Golubeva, F. Guber, A. Hasler, A. Korzenev, S. Kuleshov, A. Kurepin, A. Laszlo, V. Marin, Yu. Musienko, O. Petukhov, D. Röhrich, A. Sadovsky, Z. Sadygov, T. Tolyhi, F. Zerrouk

Abstract: The modular hadron calorimeter with micro-pixel avalanche photodiodes readout for the NA61/SHINE experiment at the CERN SPS is presented. The calorimeter consists of 44 independent modules with lead-scintillator sandwich structure. The light from the scintillator tiles is captured by and transported with WLS-fibers embedded in scintillator grooves. The construction provides a longitudinal segmenta… ▽ More
