You can\u2019t just download an AI app<\/a> to use Midjourney, though \u2014 the only way to use it is through Discord, the social app. Because getting started using Midjourney can be tricky, we\u2019ll show you how to use Midjourney on Discord, including how to sign up, generate and edit images, and ensure you\u2019re getting the results you want.\n<\/p>\n\n\n

How to Sign Up for Midjourney\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

First things first, you\u2019ll need a Discord account. Assuming you already have one, it\u2019s time to sign up for Midjourney.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Go to the Midjourney website<\/a>.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click Join the Beta<\/span> to automatically open an invite to join the Midjourney Discord channel.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    Midjourney generally offers a free trial to new members, with around 25 free images, but as of the time of publication of this article (July 2023), free trials have been suspended due to abuse of the system.     How to Subscribe to Midjourney\n<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    Here\u2019s how to set up your Midjourney subscription:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Open the Discord app or sign in via the Discord website<\/a>.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Navigate to the Midjourney channel and press the Menu <\/span>button (three stacked horizontal lines) at the top left of your screen.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Scroll down until you see a list of Newcomer Rooms<\/span>.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Select one \u2014 it doesn\u2019t matter which one. Rooms are typically named \u201c# newbies – xxx<\/span>\u201d\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. In the message field at the bottom of your screen, type \/subscribe<\/span>, then hit Return <\/span>or Enter<\/span>. Note: This \u201c\/\u201d command is a slash command that lets you communicate with Midjourney and other bots on Discord.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n

        How to Generate Images on Midjourney\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        To get started generating images on Midjourney, you can use a #newbies channel, but it can get hectic with prompts constantly being posted. However, it\u2019s a good way to see what prompts other people are posting, and what works.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        You can also send commands to the Midjourney Bot via DM. Note that these prompts and generated images will still appear in the member\u2019s gallery unless you\u2019re a Pro Plan subscriber.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        We recommend starting in a #newbies channel and moving to DM once you\u2019ve got the hang of things.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Here\u2019s how to get started generating images in a #newbies channel.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. In the message box at the bottom of your screen (in the channel of your choice), type \/imagine<\/span> and then hit the prompt box that pops up.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Tap back in the message box, then type your prompt and hit Enter. For example, \u201c\/imagine a green forest with a black cat lying in a pool of sunshine.<\/span>\u201d\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. You should see a message from the Midjourney Bot with your prompt, which says \u201cWaiting to Start<\/span>.\u201d\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        4. Once the job has started, you\u2019ll see a percentage progress.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n

            Underneath the generated images, you\u2019ll see eight buttons: U1, U2, U3, U4, V1, V2, V3, and V4. The U buttons are for upscaling the selected image, so you\u2019ll get a larger and more detailed version. The V buttons create four new variations of that specific image, with the same composition and style.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            If you\u2019re unhappy with any of the generated images, you can also hit Re-roll to re-run your prompt, generating four new images. Play around with things, as it\u2019s all a matter of learning how Midjourney works and what prompts will get you the best results.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            2. The Midjourney Bot confirms it\u2019s creating four variations of the requested image.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            3. You can click Cancel Job<\/span> at any time if you change your mind.\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            4. Once the bot has finished creating your variations, it will display them, and you\u2019ll see the same buttons underneath to upscale images or create new variations. \n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n
