Every research breakthrough begins with a “hunch” or out-of-the-box idea. Research funding, however, is available for only tried-and-true findings. Hunches desperately need start-up funds so that they don’t languish in the minds of scientists. 

In 2008, breast cancer patient Mary Beth Gadus began asking her friends and family to commit $1,000 each to become a voice for breast cancer research, with a goal of engaging 100 people.

More than a decade later, 100 Voices of Hope has become a source of research funding and inspiration for breast cancer researchers at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Coach Chuck Pagano's captivating and resilient battle with leukemia has inspired many through his Chuckstrong initiative, and has generated $15.5 million for IU cancer research since 2013.

It all began shortly after Pagano, who was the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts from 2012 to 2017, publicly shared his leukemia diagnosis in 2012. The Colts immediately sprang into action and launched the Chuckstrong initiative.
