Amateur psychology and its enemies

Abstract

This paper presents an example of a topic inviting amateur psychology in response and introduces some characters: some who try to shut down the topic and some who will allow for it but with greatly reduced amateur psychology. It raises the question of why these characters hate amateur psychology so. Also it introduces a rational actor model in relation to the topic: a model which explains why people in a field look similar. People in a job want to be regarded as competent, so it is rational for them to develop a distinctive look.
