Had a wonderful stay at Le Trouville Hôtel de Charme in Trouville. The hotel was cozy, very clean, and the bed was super comfortable. The location is perfect — just a few minutes’ walk to the beach, city center, fish market, and everything you may need, while still being in a quiet and peaceful area. The reception staff were absolutely amazing — incredibly helpful and hospitable throughout the stay. Breakfast was also delicious with a great selection. I would definitely come back next time and highly recommend this hotel for a charming stay in Trouville!

GORGEOUS! Great owners… great coffee… peaceful and a perfect stay. The owners take pride in offering quality, top notch service and amenities. I couldn’t be happier after a nightmare we had the same day with two separate hotels. (One cancelled on us, and one didn’t even answer the door of the chateau to let us in even before check in tome was over). I was so incredibly happy to have found this place, even if it wasn’t planned… we felt so welcome and amazing at the loving atmosphere and hospitality of the owners. Their love of their property radiates from within and from every corner. Everything is well thought out and comfortable. Even the products offered for bathroom use was all natural. Just an exquisite stay and I’m very thankful for them as they answered the phone very late at night due to our unfortunate circumstance and welcomed us with open arms! The property is a must see! Highly recommended!

FAQs about hotels in Normandy

Remembering the Past, Relishing the Present

Bordered by the English Channel, Normandy is a sleepy French region that sees many visitors arrive via its major seaports – Cherbourg, Dieppe, Le Havre and Ouistreham.

Between these last 2 is Deauville, home to some of the most exclusive Normandy hotels by the beach. Its pristine sands and international film festival have secured its prestige for the glitterati. The surrounding region of Calvados is famous for its cider and brandy, and Normandy also home to camembert cheese.

Calvados was also the site of the Allied landings and Booking.com has a great range of B&Bs and hotels near D-Day beaches. Caen, the Normandy capital, is a lovely city that houses the Memorial for Peace, a museum detailing the effects of conflict, and World War II in particular. North of here in Bénouville is Pegasus Bridge, while the D-Day beaches span from Ouistreham to Arromanches, home to another of Normandy’s WWII museums.

Inland is the Bayeux tapestry, a huge, hand-stitched depiction of the Norman conquest of England. Off the region’s western shores are the Channel Islands, while at its south-west corner are Avranches and nearby Mont Saint-Michel, accessed via a causeway.

Other Normandy attractions include Rouen, a historic city with colourful, half-timbered houses and an archaeology museum housing finds from the Roman amphitheatre down the Seine River in Lillebonne.

Rouen is a lovely city where you can take your time and travel without rushing. Locals are very friendly, and the town is filled with ancient historic buildings. Its narrow‑yet‑clean, beautiful streets are a joy to wander. We enjoyed wonderful food during our stay. We chanced upon an excellent‑value French restaurant so good that we dined there two nights in a row; it was fully packed with guests each evening, creating a vibrant, lively atmosphere. We also found a Chinese restaurant and had a great meal there — the food tasted nice and the owner was very warm‑hearted. This city has left us with wonderful family memories. Our children hope to come back to Rouen someday.

Agreeably impressed by Caen, which felt like a working city which appreciates its heritage assets and knows how to have a little fun, with pleasant bars and cafes. Certainly a good base for exploring wider Normandy, and well served by public transport and bike paths and routes. We were on a cycling trip and didn't make time to visit the several big Romanesque churches, but spent an hour wandering around William the Conqueror's massive castle one evening, which is certainly monumental. As is usually the case in France, the roads around Caen are excellent and access to the D-Day beaches, La Suisse Normande and other places of interest in the region even in peak season was easy.

I have known Honfleur from my early travels, 40 years ago, to today and have seen many changes from a fishing port with a great deal of history to a tourist mecca. I see it through different glasses than most tourists. However, the little town has managed to maintain its unique charm for everyone through supporting small personal businesses and only few chains and franchises.

Our hotel was an oasis of calm.

Our hotel was an oasis of calm. We needed it as Etretat is way too touristy for me. A sweaty heaving promenade that's been allowed to become a bit too 'Costa-del-sunburn'. Some classy retaurants but all rather tacky. The surrounding cliff walks were stunning but very similar to walking along Seven Sisters in East Sussex tbh! Start very very early is my advice. On our way back the paths were heaving with sooo many people, mostly taking Insta pictures or struggling along in flip-flops! I'm not a beach person and the beaches looks ok but again, really busy. My wife loved the clear water though.

I have visited Dieppe for the past three summers and really enjoy visiting as a solo female traveller. The restaurants and cafes are welcoming, there are many good walks and expeditions available, the prices are reasonable and there's a real sense of place there. You really feel like you're visiting somewhere that people life rather than a tourist town. The Saturday market was a real highlight of my trip, with the Grand Rue full of amazing local produce and hot food. Another joy this year was the Lire a la Plage initiative with reading spaces and free books to borrow on the beach at Dieppe and 12 other coastal locations in Normandy. Just WONDERFUL! The town is an easy train trip to Rouen or further on to Paris and the buses that run frequently along the coast are well priced and stop at lovely Normandy towns and villages. Even in high summer, the town moves at a pace that allows for reading, walking, thinking and taking in the sights. You can walk to Pourville-sur-Mer or Plage de Puys in a little over an hour and the view on the way are fantastic. I'd recommend Dieppe to anyone who's looking for a welcoming break from the day to day and the ferry from Newhaven is great value (especially for foot passengers) and convenient.
