There was a nice warm pool. The breakfast was worth paying extra for, a lot of choices with both classical western hotel breakfast and Chinese foods to choose from. Very nice view of the city from the hotel rooms and nice view from the bar and restaurant in the dome highest up. The personnel were kind. Especially when we were drinking tea in the hotel lobby lounge a staff member called Selina was very nice and helpful!

FAQs about hotels in Shanghai

A Beacon of Modern China

A beacon of 21st-century China, Shanghai is modernising at an electrifying rate. Nowhere is this more evident than the skyscraper-punctuated Pudong commercial district. The most distinct - the Oriental Pearl Tower - has a ball at the top and bottom and offers fabulous city views. A number of towers also twist as they go up – a feat of contemporary engineering.

This side of the city also houses Shanghai Pudong International Airport, while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is over the Huangpu River in the Puxi district. An area of older and less dominating buildings, Puxi features the elegant Bund area whose varied architecture includes a surprising array of Art Deco.

With a choice of shopping centres and small shops beneath brightly lit neon signs just like Chinatowns across the world, Shanghai shopping is fantastic.

Other must-see Shanghai attractions include the wonderful Shanghai Museum and the Jade Buddha Temple. For a break from the hustle and bustle head to the Yuyuan Gardens, the beach or peaceful Zhujiajiao Water Town in the west.

Whether you choose one of the Shanghai hotels, apartments or hostels, take time to go to a tea house, a Chinese institution. Also worth sampling are Shanghai hairy crab, steamed dumplings and the freshwater fish so popular with locals.

Shanghai is a beautiful and fascinating city, but it is extremely crowded. Exploring the central areas in the evening can be quite difficult because of the huge crowds, and it is often hard to take good photos of the city’s beautiful sights without people getting in the way.

Great city to visit but I wouldn't stay here more than 3 nights as once you've done the most obvious touristic things there isn't much else to do. Food was great though. We didn't visit a single restaurant that didn't have above average food!

I would love to come again! Absolutely loved it!

I would love to come again! Absolutely loved it! Found cheesecake factory inside LV ship and food was great there. There was a greenhouse garden, probably better to go when there is some daylight left still but also the night time view is great. Very easy to go around places! Bund and oriental pearl tower were the busiest places of all but view was amazing. Light show from bund and sunset and view from oriental Pearl tower is worth going for. City Gold temple is definitely worth going to in the evening. It is so pretty and lots of shops there

A great city with lots to see and do, including museums, architecture, experiences, and food. You just need to be ready for the culture clash; very few people speak English, and everything is handled via local apps, so you'll need AliPay (payments), Didi (taxis) and AMaps (maps). Meituan (food) is also useful, though it is embedded within AliPay. There's also little concern for personal space, which takes a little getting used to. The metro is fantastic for getting around - clean, air-conditioned and cheap. I was there in July, and I'd avoid that month as it's really hot and humid.

Shanghai is the largest and most modern city in China but at the same time we found it a bit less authentic then other cities we have visited such as Beijing, Xian and Chengdu. It is also quite more expensive. With that said it is still very much worth visiting for a few days with lots of things to see.

This hotel is part of the domestic terminal at Shanghai Hongqiao airport. Very grand entrance from within the terminal on the departures level. Breakfast choice was very good and well worth the extra money. Excellent views of the airport action and looking out over the ramps and runways, if you get a high enough view. Asked for and was given a later check-out time of 2pm at no extra cost. Handy coach service between Pudong and Hongqiao airports too.

We stayed at Joyful Yard twice on our transit in Shanghai and the hotel is amazing! Best value for money. Stuff check us in very early (around 7-8am) which is normally unusual for the hotels. Breakfast is good - nice selection of European and Chinese meals, good coffee and vending machine. Rooms were big, modern and clean. Transfer from and to the airport was very useful. We really enjoyed the hotel both times👍
