Of all the places I stayed during my trip around Iceland, Holt Inn was undoubtedly one of my absolute favourites. I rarely feel as comfortable and genuinely happy in an accommodation as I did here. The location is simply beautiful. Nestled in the peaceful countryside between Flateyri and Þingeyri, surrounded by green meadows and impressive mountains, it offers exactly the kind of quiet, unspoilt Icelandic scenery I had hoped to experience. It is wonderfully peaceful, yet an excellent base for exploring this part of the Westfjords, with several beautiful hiking opportunities nearby. What truly makes Holt Inn special, however, are the people. Everyone was incredibly warm, welcoming and genuinely enthusiastic. They clearly enjoy what they do, and that positive atmosphere can be felt throughout the entire inn. I had several lovely conversations with the staff, and their friendliness and genuine care for their guests made my stay even more memorable. The breakfast was another highlight. It wasn’t about having an endless selection, but about the care and thought that had gone into it. There were so many little touches that made it feel special and personal, and it was the perfect way to start the day. Guests also have access to a refrigerator in the breakfast room, and complimentary coffee, tea and biscuits are available throughout the day. On the first floor, there is a spacious and cosy lounge where guests can relax, watch TV, read a book or get some work done on their laptop. Outside, tucked away behind the inn among the trees, there is also a hot tub – a lovely place to unwind after a day of exploring the Westfjords. Holt Inn is one of those rare places where everything simply feels right. It combines a wonderful location with genuine hospitality, and it was one of the highlights of my stay in Iceland.

Beautiful location, welcoming staff, comfortable room, good & ample breakfast. It really shows this hotel is the owner's labour of love, and not just another roadside cookie cutter : It has lots of character & attention to details : We especially enjoyed the spending the evening at the lounge with impressive vinyl collection & vintage HI-FI. The value for money (Both hotel & Restaurant) is very good for Iceland standards. Would love to stay again !

Loved this hotel and village! So quirky and so much history. The hotel was jam packed with mementos. Really moved by the Herring factory tour especially stories of personal experiences there. Such dedication to a cause. Isolated and beautiful. Lovely dining room and food. Kind and attentive, helpful staff. Loved everything about being here.

We booked our room last-minute and were very well received by the hotel staff, who were very welcoming and attentive. The room was much nicer than advertised in the photos, spacious and clean, and the bed was really comfortable. It was particularly lovely to wake up with all the property's sheep and lambs just outside our room!

The old part of Borgarnes is fun to tour through and the waterfront area has a great walk (weather permitting). The old museum was fun with a really interesting folk tale on one level and artifacts on the lower level. There is also an old coffee and sweets shop to visit not too far up the hill from the museum. This is a great town to stay in if you are going up to the National Park.

Hellnar is the perfect location, close to all the major attractions on the peninsula and an ideal place to spend the night while soaking in the beauty of the landscape. There’s a charming little café just a few minutes from the Peninsula Suites that serves the best waffles with jam and whipped cream, an Icelandic classic. The views are truly out of this world, we’ve never seen anything like it. Cliffs, ocean, glacier, and moss all come together in the most breathtaking way. It’s an absolute must on your trip!
