Staying at Markree Castle was definitely the highlight of our 3-week trip around Ireland. We felt so fortunate that we decided on Markree after conducting meticulous research on Irish castle stays. It was our first time staying in a castle and we felt like royals! We loved exploring the historical castle, and there was even more to take in than we expected - from a great number of beautifully decorated rooms and spaces to the abbey and the lovely grounds. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent and all the staff were most kind and helpful. Our room was very elegant, clean and had a nice view as well. Our stay was magical and didn't lack a thing!

We went to Sligo for 2 nights in the recent heatwave in July this year. What an amazing break. Sligo beautiful, beautiful scenery. Rosses point beach was amazing. Very safe beach, beautiful weather. Felt we were in Italy. Unforgettable for all the right reasons.

A great destination with lots to see.

A great destination with lots to see. Unfortunately, too much traffic and too 'car-oriented' in Sligo town. 'A by-pass through the centre' - doesn't allow for a pleasant ambiance... Relatively close to Drumcliff and amenities of Sligo town and Bundoran.

Natural beauty, but it is not exploited enough.

Natural beauty, but it is not exploited enough. The Holywell near Carraroe on Garland Sunday is such an experience. Great walking esp on Benbulben. Access at Gortarowey is a well kept secret. Great places to eat, includig the bar at Clarion, Davies at Drumcliffe, a bowl of chowder at Hargadons, Lyons cafe ( closed on Mondays), Eala Bhan, I could go on. Its a nightmate to get around Sligo, traffic is a mess. There is a local bus link but information on routes is another well kept secret.

Sligo is a great county to visit.

Sligo is a great county to visit. Lots of great places to visit. Great beaches, good food options and good coffee in Sligo town and Strandhill. Visit Carrowkeel, knocknarea, kesh caves, Enniscrone beach. Mullaghmore, Trails around Benbulbin, Glencar valley (devils stove pipe & Glencar waterfalls). Definitely need a bit of research cause there's hidden gems to be discovered.

I enjoyed visiting the Abbey, and doing the historic walking tour of the town. My wife enjoyed the shops. Sligo was a good base for visits to Lissadell, Carrowmore, Parke’s Castle and the beaches on the coast. The scenery in this part of the country is exceptionally fine. The weather was exceptionally good while we were there, and traffic near the beaches was very busy. Parking near beaches was difficult.

Such a lovely hotel. Next door to the train and right on the edge of town, they gave us a refurbished room on the 3rd floor but it was right next door to the lift which woke us up very time somebody came up or down in the lift. As soon as l complained they moved us next door and we couldn’t hear the lift. The staff were very helpful and couldn’t do enough. All in all we had a great weekend Sligo is a lovely place

Bring centrally located in Sligo, everything is walking distance from the hotel and there are no shortage of traditional Irish pubs to choose from.
