“In web security today there are surprisingly few people with the ability to not only identify specific instances of flaws in code, but the root causes behind entire bug classes. More rare are the researchers of Devdatta's caliber who are capable of architecting more rational and secure platforms that are actually practical to implement. Devdatta has demonstrated this ability throughout his published research. In particular, Devdatta's work in "Privilege Separation for HTML5 Applications" must be recognized for achieving strong privilege separation in web applications without requiring a complete browser overhaul. Devdatta reported to me as part of the Microsoft internship program in the summer of 2011. He completed exemplary work in defining a problem in the area of telemetry for web security threats, building a platform for innovation in this space, and leveraging the platform successfully to identify real-world security issues. Given all of Devdatta's strengths, I expect he will continue to play a crucial role in modernizing the foundation of web security.”
